Gear Guide

Pokémon GO accessories that actually help

Hand-picked gear for trainers who play for real — auto-catchers, power banks, grips, coolers, and cold-weather kit. Everything here is on Amazon, genuinely useful, and stays inside Niantic's rules. No spoofers, no fake-walking gadgets.

Top picks

If you buy nothing else, start here. These three solve the most common pain points for the most players.

Phone grip or ring

Pokémon GO is a one-handed, walk-and-tap game — you are constantly flicking throws, spinning stops, and holding the phone up to read the map. A grip stops mid-throw drops and cuts thumb and wrist fatigue over a multi-hour Community Day.

MagSafe versions only stick to MagSafe iPhones (12 and up) or a magnetic case. On Android or older iPhones, choose the adhesive PopGrip or a ring grip instead.

High-capacity power bank

GPS, a bright screen, AR, and Bluetooth running for hours make Pokémon GO a notorious battery killer. A 20,000–24,000 mAh bank has the headroom to run your phone — and even an active cooling fan — through a full GO Fest or back-to-back raid days, while staying carry-on legal.

10,000 mAh banks give only one to two phone charges — fine for a single event, not all day. Wireless and MagSafe banks run warmer in summer; use the USB-C cable for the most efficient charge.

Auto-catch / auto-spin device

These pair over Bluetooth and auto-spin PokéStops and auto-catch nearby Pokémon without unlocking your phone — so you bank Poké Balls, berries, potions, and egg distance while you walk, and save big on battery by keeping the screen off. They still require you to physically move; none of them fake your location.

Go-tcha and Brook are third-party — hugely popular and used for years, but not officially licensed by Niantic; only the GO Plus + is. All require Bluetooth, the app running in the background, and have a rechargeable battery. They throw standard Poké Balls only — no premium-ball or berry logic.

Strong situational gear

Worth it depending on how and where you play — summer heat, long-distance walking, and winter events.

Phone cooling fan

AR plus continuous GPS and a bright screen is one of the heaviest sustained thermal loads a phone faces. In summer, phones throttle — dimming, lag, slower catch animations. A Peltier (semiconductor) clip-on cooler holds the phone below throttle temps through a full raid or Community Day.

These are active coolers — they must stay plugged into USB-C power, so pair one with a power bank. Magnetic mounting needs MagSafe or a stick-on metal ring; clamp versions fit anything. In humid heat, use the app's smart mode to avoid condensation.

Bike, stroller & car mount

Adventure Sync rewards walking and biking distance for egg hatching, buddy candy, and weekly goals. A handlebar or stroller mount lets you rack up that distance hands-free while keeping the map visible for spawns and stops.

Car mounts are for passengers only — never play while driving. Pokémon GO detects driving speeds and locks gameplay (the "you're going too fast" limit), and playing behind the wheel is dangerous and against Niantic's own in-game warnings.

Touchscreen gloves

Winter Community Days and December events don't stop for the cold. Conductive-thread gloves let you keep throwing and tapping in freezing temps — no more pulling a glove off for every single throw.

Useful add-ons

Smaller upgrades that smooth out the rough edges of playing outdoors for hours.

Waterproof pouch

Outdoor play means rain, beaches, and water-type biomes that cluster near actual water. An IPX8 pouch lets you keep playing in a downpour or lakeside, and you can still tap through the clear window to throw and spin.

Roomier — fits larger Pro Max phones and foldables up to about 8.9 inches.

Pouches are universal, but touch sensitivity drops slightly and the camera is usually blocked — keep AR off (standard map mode) while pouched.

Anti-glare screen protector

The game lives outdoors in direct sun, where the map and small spawn icons wash out under glare. A matte or anti-reflective tempered glass diffuses sunlight so you can read the map and throw arcs — and it hides the fingerprint smudges from constant swiping.

Must match your exact phone model (an iPhone 16, 16 Pro, and 16 Pro Max all differ). Matte softens the image slightly; anti-reflective keeps it crisp.

Extra-long charging cable

If you carry a power bank, a 6–10 ft cable lets you stash the battery in a bag or pocket and keep the phone comfortably in hand. A short cable forces you to hold both together.

Rechargeable hand warmer

Cold-weather walking makes throwing and tapping miserable, and the best hand warmers double as a power bank — solving cold hands and a dying battery in one device on a long winter walk.

Crossbody phone lanyard

Hours of one-handed walking is hard on your grip. A crossbody strap keeps the phone secured and reachable without a death-grip, and prevents drops when you glance between the map and the sidewalk.

What we won't recommend

We only list gear that plays Pokémon GO the way it's meant to be played. We deliberately leave out anything that fakes movement or location — GPS spoofers, fake-GPS apps, automated phone "swing" or "rocker" walkers, and multi-account botting hardware. Niantic's Gameplay Fairness Policy treats those as cheating, enforced by a three-strike system that ends in a permanent ban — losing all your progress, items, and purchases. Every accessory above still requires you to get up and actually walk.

FAQ

Common questions

Are auto-catchers like Go-tcha allowed in Pokémon GO?

They play the game through the official Bluetooth accessory feature — spinning stops and catching nearby Pokémon while you walk — and they don't fake your location. The Pokémon GO Plus + is officially licensed by Niantic; Go-tcha and Brook are popular third-party devices that aren't officially licensed. None of them are GPS spoofers, which Niantic does ban.

What's the single most useful accessory?

For most players, a phone grip and a 20,000 mAh+ power bank. The grip saves your hand on long sessions, and the power bank solves the game's biggest pain — battery drain. If you walk a lot, add an auto-catcher.

Why don't you show prices?

Amazon prices change constantly, so we link straight to the live listing instead of quoting a number that could be wrong. Tap "View on Amazon" for the current price.

Do I really need a cooling fan?

Only if your phone overheats and throttles during long summer sessions or raids. If you mostly play in short bursts, skip it. If you do get one, remember it needs USB-C power the whole time — pair it with a power bank.
